Klaus Schmidt (1953-2014)

It is with great sadness that we must convey the death of Klaus Schmidt. Prof. Schmidt passed away on Sunday 20th July 2014. His passing comes completely unexpected and leaves us with an unprecedented sense of loss in every respect. Klaus was head of numerous projects based at the German Archaeological Institute, including investigations at the important Early Neolithic site of Göbekli Tepe, Southeast Turkey, which has just entered its twentieth year, as well as at the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age sites at Aqaba, Jordan. Our thoughts at this time are with his wife, Ciğdem[1], whom we would like to express our sincere condolences. In the name of all his colleagues of the German Archaeological Institute, and his research team.
