The building (Taş Okul/Taş Mektep of later years) built for French urbanist and banker Alléon[*] in 1874 as a summer residence (his winter home was in Alyon Sokak in Pera) using brick and roof tiles from Marseille  and used until a major quake in 1894.
The mansion was sold in 1898 to Preveze Governor (Mutasarrif) Ali Rıza Paşa and later purchased by the Education Ministry (Maarif Nezareti) for 4200 gold coins in 1900. It was  initially used used as a police station, the building went on to become a monastic school. After a short period it became a Greek middle school. It was attached to the local Greek community and church. With the decline of the Greek community, the school was used as an alms house. From 1928 to 1968, it was a middle school serving the needs of the communities of Bakırköy, Yeşilköy and Yeşilyurt. During the period 1968 to 1991, the building was taken over and used by a charity organization.

The building experienced a major fire (2009) and after a restoration was owned and operated by the late Turkish film actor Tarik Akan as Taş Private Elementary School.
